摘要: 本文主要以“破产姐妹”为例探究英语委婉语的人际交流功能。委婉语是一种普遍存在于人们生活中各个领域的重要修辞手段，大体分为避讳功能、礼貌功能及掩饰功能。本文还将阐述英语委婉语产生的社会基础以及发展趋势，并提出自己的见解，希望对英语学习者在英语交际能力方面有所帮助并了解中西方的一些基本文化知识和文化差异。

Abstract: This paper mainly uses the“2 Broke Girls”as an example to explore the communicative function of English euphemism. Euphemism is an important rhetorical device that exists in various fields. It is roughly divided into avoidance function, polite function and cover function. This article will also explain the social foundations and development trends of English euphemisms and present their own opinions. I hope that English learners will be helpful in English communication skills and understand some basic cultural knowledge and cultural differences between China and the West.

1 Introduction
1.1 A Brief Introduction to English euphemism
Euphemism, which comes from the Greek word euphemism, where “eu-” means “good,well”. “ -pheme” means “speaking”, and together it means "saying good things". Euphemism is an elegant form of language expression created by people, which can reduce unpleasant associations caused by straightforward wording and make communication more smooth .English euphemism is a suitable expression that people hope to find in communication and communication. Even if both parties can successfully complete the communication, the two sides feel that the communication is enjoyable.
1.2 A Brief Introduction to “2 Broke Girls”
"2 Broke Girls" is a sitcom premiered on CBS on September 19, 2011 in the United States. The show was created by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cumming, and the production company is Warner Bros. TV.
The show was set up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City, and tells the story of two urban girls with completely different backgrounds. Max (Kate Dennings) was born in a poor family, and Caroline (Beth Behrs) was born in a rich family. Caroline's family suddenly went bankrupt., so she had to go to a restaurant to earn money. The two discussed the raising of 250,000 US dollars to together create a new cause.
2 The Definition and Development of English Euphemism
2.1 The definition of English euphemism
Simply put, euphemism is a slap in the face. Specifically, euphemism is a discourse that people use to communicate in a polite manner for the sake of avoid embarrassment or unpleasantness in the process of communication. In the Concise Version of the Oxford Dictionary (1978), his interpretation of euphemism is "a way of expressing a sharp or discourse with a gentle or vague word." Euphemism is a product that occurs when human civilization develops to a certain extent. It is a phenomenon that is common in human society. It is used to mediate interpersonal relationships, add fun to people's daily lives, and even promote communication. Along with the development of science and technology, the role of euphemism in human society is becoming more and more distinct, and it is constantly changing with the changes of the times. Euphemism can be said to be a rhetorical device to a certain extent. Persuasion, it is spread all over the corner of our daily life and has a strong communicative function.
