Abstract：Chinese and western traditional festival is an important carrier and inheritance of national culture. Study the specific holidays in the western traditional culture，and the trend of the evolution and development, digging deeper into the connotation of western traditional festival culture，are of great significance for cross-cultural communication under the economic globalization background and the spread of Chinese and western culture. As Chinese we should take the good and discard the dregs.

1 Introduction
Nowadays, western festivals have become more and more popular in eastern countries, especially in China. But why this kind of situation appears, I summarized two reasons. The first reason is the marine culture caused by its physical geographical environment. The second reason is the immigrants caused by the war.
The cradle of western culture is Greece. The reason why the ancient Greek culture came to be so open lies in it's marine geographic environment. On the one hand, people need to fight the bad natural environment for a long time, thus western people formed a science tradition of exploration and tough nature. On the other hand, this kind of geographical environment encourages them to communicate and exchange with the outside world, expand the development of industry and commerce. The territory of the western countries generally are not very big, they are tightly dependent and surrounded by the sea. They have meager resources because of the small size of the lands, they will invade other countries for more resources and money. People have no choice but to migrate to other places and countries under the situation. All kinds of people get together, in order to commemorate some day or some people, they made the holidays. This is the origin of the festivals. With the communication of all the world, more and more Chinese people also joined in.[1]
